The Florida Right to Clean Water is a citizens' initiative to amend the Florida Constitution with the right to clean and healthy waters. This is our last best chance to protect Florida’s waters. 🌊
If our current laws were working, then we wouldn’t have manatees dying in record numbers, 80% of our 1000 springs impaired, and harmful blue-green algae and red tide in greater frequency and duration. A constitutional right takes precedence over legislation that permits pollution, restricts fertilizer bans, and allows radioactive materials to be used in our roads.
🌊 All Floridians’ lives depend on clean water. 🌊 The current system protects polluter interests. It puts vulnerable communities into harm’s way via sacrifice zones (where we see people and pets get sick or die) and other environmental injustices. That must change! We need our state constitution to be abundantly clear about OUR priorities: people over profit, especially something as basic as clean water.
Dirty water is bad for humans, for animals, for ecosystems, for businesses, for property owners, for regional economies, and for Florida’s tourism, agriculture and growth industries.
There are countless ways you can contribute:
- Love engaging with people? Perfect! Help us collect signatures.
- Prefer working behind the scenes? Fantastic! We have roles for you too, working from home.
- Interested in leadership? Consider becoming a Campus Director or Deputy Director.
Ways to Support:
- Mobilize college clubs to gather petitions.
- Plan or participate in events for petition signing. (on campus or in the Miami area)
- Collect petitions with friends and family.
- Partner with local businesses to host petition signing locations.
- Recruit volunteers across your campus.
- Coordinate speaking opportunities with environmental professors.
- Write articles for school or local newspapers.
- Boost awareness on social media.
