A Simple Gesture

A Simple Gesture (ASG) is a Guilford County-based nonprofit working to end hunger in Guilford County in our lifetime. We make it easy for neighbors, businesses and faith communities to donate food. They fill our green reusable grocery bags, volunteers collect them, and every bit of food goes straight to our 75+ local food pantry partners.

Our Impact
Since 2015, A Simple Gesture has provided over 10 million child-size meals. You'll know us by our green food collection bags. We focus on feeding children and families, and we believe that together we can end hunger in our community. Neighbors Feeding Neighbors!

Our program has three main goals:

1. To ensure no child is hungry

2. To create new neighborhood connections and strengthen our community

3. To serve as a model for other communities

Green Bag Program
Students, faculty, staff and community members can get involved by:

• Volunteering to pick up nonperishable food donations every other month

• Volunteering to help stock the shelves at our High Point partner pantries

• Signing up to donate a bag of nonperishable food every other month (we'll pick it up from your front porch!)

Food Recovery Program
Our Food Recovery program rescues wholesome surplus food from grocery stores, restaurants and other businesses. We deliver it to nonprofits that serve meals to their clients and the wider community. It also keeps good food out of landfills, where food waste is a major source of greenhouse gas. If you own, work at or manage a business with extra food to donate, or you'd like to be a Food Recovery pickup driver, visit https://asimplegesturegso.org/repurpose-food-recovery/.

SHARE Program
ASG supports the SHARE program in Guilford County Schools. SHARE refrigerators in schools let students leave unopened food they don't need so classmates can take it home. It's a simple way for students to look out for each other, it keeps good food from being thrown away, and it makes sure more kids have what they need to learn and grow.
