About
Operacion Impacto is an innovative community engagement program that bridges GW's mission and students' civic responsibility with local community needs and opportunities. It includes the GW César Chávez, Dolores Huerta and Larry Itliong Day of celebration, commitment to social justice, and call to action.
An initiative of the Spanish Language program, introduced and led by Professor Dolores Perillan, who identified a linguistic gap in GW and DC community service priorities. Many community partners seek Spanish speaking students to serve the needs of their organizations, and the goal of Impacto is to offer support, learn together, and work to help provide for each other's needs.
Learn and Practice while you Serve! The program is open to any student enrolled in a GW Intermediate or Advanced Spanish class. Students commit to a minimum number of service hours and reflections, as part of their commitment and learning.
Students who are interested in participating in Operación Impacto can sign up for Spanish 3040, 3150 or 4480 as Community Engaged Scholarship courses, and the entire GW community is welcome to engage in GW César Chávez, Dolores Huerta and Larry Itliong Day.
