Together with 40 other faith communities across Memphis, we provide emergency shelter and meals during the cold winter months of the year. We call this Holy Hospitality. Fellowship and sharing is the critical element of this intimate experience. Each volunteer has a unique opportunity to offer the gift of hospitality.

OLPH will be hosting at Germantown United Methodist Church every Wednesday night November 1st-March 28th. We hosted 280 last season and RITI Memphis hosted 5600 guests. Please consider signing up to help and be a part of this rewarding program. Here are the needs:
2- Drivers to transport 12 guests from The Carpenter's House, 212 No. 2nd St. to GUMC, cottage-house across the street from church at 2338 So. Germantown Rd., 38138. It is on the same side of the street as Germantown commissary and just past Holliday Florist. Look for the white picket fence and pull in that driveway. We are in the terra cotta colored building, enter from the side. Pick up at The Carpenter's House at 5:15. Morning return drivers pick up at GUMC Cottage at 5:45 to leave by 6:00 a.m.
2-4 - Dinner & Drinks for 19-20 which includes the volunteers. Sweet & Unsweetened iced tea, Lemonade or Sprite. This can be split up for volunteers to bring Drinks & Dessert or bread, main course, vegetables or salad. Use disposable containers and bring necessary serving utensils. I provide all plates, cups & eating utensils. You will be serving dinner and eating with the guests. There is an oven there if needed to keep food warm. Volunteers should arrive by 5:15. They can get table ready, make beds and distribute toiletries. Guests arrive at 6:00. In order to give more volunteers and opportunity to provide dinner please limit your sign ups to 2-3 times maximum. SPONSOR DINNER: $100.00
2 - Overnight Shepherds- Lights out is at 10:00 p.m. Prefer one male & one female but 2 males is also fine. Air mattresses are provided but you need to bring your own pillow & covers. You will sleep in the kitchen area. Wake up at 5:15 start coffee and wake all guests by 5:45. Guests leave by 6:00 a.m.
1 OR 2 LAUNDRY ANGELS: All sheets, pillow cases & towels need to be washed. They will be dropped off at your home in storage bins. There are approximately 6-8 loads of laundry to be split between the two volunteers. Blankets will be washed once per month. Please return clean laundry to Rene Platten's, 1852 Hartwell Manor No., Collierville, TN 38017 by the garage door within 6 days. Sponsor someone taking them to the laundrymat..$35.00. 1 - To provide Take Away Breakfast for 13. The guests take this with them in the van. Bags include: 1 water, 1 sweet roll or muffin, 1 soft fruit, 1 napkin and maybe a granola bar or boiled egg if you want to. Some have made sandwiches instead of something sweet. These can be delivered to GUMC (address above) Wednesday after 5:15 p.m. Sponsor B'fast: $20.00
New underpants, shirt & Socks are given to each guest when they shower. Sponsor: $40.00
All donations can be sent to and made out to Rene Platten, 1852 Hartwell Manor No., Collierville, TN 38017. Any donations over $100 will receive a tax donation letter.
