About
Join Hill Country Conservancy in celebrating National Public Lands Day with a day of planting at Pecan Springs Karst Preserve! National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands bringing together volunteers to improve and enhance public lands across the country.
We need enthusiastic volunteers to help us plant native grasses and trees along Pecan Springs, and we can't do it without you. This is your chance to make a tangible impact on our environment and have a great time doing it. Activities may include digging holes for native seedlings, caging young trees for protection, and watering newly planted areas.
Meet like-minded nature lovers, learn about local conservation efforts, and enjoy the beauty of Pecan Springs Karst Preserve. Water, snacks and all necessary tools will be provided by Hill Country Conservancy.
Volunteers must be able to:
- Lift and carry: Handle materials like young trees, tools, and equipment weighing up to 20-30 pounds.
- Dig and plant: Use shovels to dig holes, plant trees, and install protective cages.
- Stand and bend: Stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods while planting.
- Move on uneven terrain: Work on uneven or muddy ground in an outdoor environment.
What to wear/bring:
- Comfortable, closed-toe hiking or athletic shoes. We recommend wearing mud boots but any closed-toed shoe should work fine.
- Long pants--you will be walking through some high grass! Hiking/outdoor pants or jeans are recommended over fleece or jersey material (like leggings).
- Bottle of water. We'll have plenty of water for you to refill!
- Sunscreen and some sort of insect repellant, if desired.
