Parking Crew (18 Years Old+ only) at Helping Hands - earn bonus hours!

(Cancelled) was Saturday, April 29th, 2023 from 7:00am to Saturday, June 13th, 2026 10:15am
This event has been cancelled.

About

This is an outdoor volunteer position. You will have some outdoor exposure, so please dress appropriately. This would include appropriate supplies for high and low temperatures, and all forms of precipitation. Hats, sunglasses, rain gear, snow gear, etc... CHFB is very limited in what we can provide with these items. Thank you! 😎

Saturday Helping Hands is CHFB's primary food distribution volunteer event and it all starts with the vehicles! In this position you will be assisting with the moving of cars throughout the parking lot and into the food distribution line. This task is best for those who are 18 or older.

 A couple of notes:

  • We host a lot of new drivers.
  • This position uses a lot of hand signals! Mostly "stop" and "go".
  • We host a lot of drivers who do not speak English as their first language, will be unable to hear you, or both.
  • Patience is a must. A lot of those who attend this distribution wait for several hours, and are going through it for the first time. There will be some confusion - but that is okay!
  • Extra parking help may not be needed, in which case, we will ask you to join the food distribution effort!
  • 🏆BONUS Hours will be earned by signing up and showing up to this task. If you need hours for community service, school, work, etc...this is a fantastic opportunity! 🏆

Please arrive at 999 E. Tillman at 6:45AM, you will need to park in the Fire Police, City County Credit Union, Midwest America Credit Union, or Domino's Pizza parking lots. All of these are directly next to CHFB.

Enter in through the “Volunteer Entrance” door. Please check in with me, Mis Embury, at the Volunteer Manager Desk / check-in table set up where you can register your attendance on an iPad (if you registered online) or by using the paper sign-in sheet. On average, Helping Hands finishes early (10-10:30), but every volunteer will receive a minimum of four hours credit for volunteering. Parking Volunteers may be eligible for more! Please ask for more details.

On the day you volunteer:

Please be aware of the weather forecast and dress accordingly. 😎
Please wear clothing for walking, bending, and reaching. 👕
Please wear close toed shoes! This is a must! 👟
We have bottled water on site. 💧

Be ready for a good workout! This is a well-paced physical activity.💪

Valuables are best left locked securely in your vehicles.

We at Community Harvest appreciate your volunteering at the Community Harvest Food Bank. We could not come even close to doing what we are able to do without you.
