Curriculum
We will provide Khan Academy, ReadWorks, Native Language Literacy, and Worksheets activities for you to work on with your students. If you work with a student in PreK through 2nd grade, we will provide all the materials to do our Early Literacy Initiative with them (for further explanation on the Early Literacy Initiative program, scroll down to the next paragraph). You can fill an important role in helping them strengthen what they learned last school year and stay on top of new material they’re learning during this challenging time.
Early Literacy Initiative
The Early Learning Initiative (ELI) is a program where students in PreK through 2nd grade work with their regular tutor on letter-sound recognition, letter formation, word recognition, and reading fluency. Like always, you will be provided with all materials required to tutor in ELI. If you prefer to work with a PreK through 2nd grade student you will be trained in our Early Literacy Initiative, based on the Orton-Gillingham teaching method, and learn teaching skills that can help you improve the literacy of any child.
Tutor Form
All tutors, new and returning, must complete our LSF Tutor Training Form. The form contains MANDATORY training in Khan Academy, ReadWorks, and our Early Literacy Initiative training for those working with students in PreK through 2nd grade. This Fall, students will have the option to use technology and worksheets. When using technology all student credentials can be accessed through GoSchoolbox. Students and tutors should be using these materials during the tutoring session, so it’s important that you understand how to use all of the programs. You will need to complete the form by answering a questionnaire, watching the training videos, and completing a brief quiz. The form will take you approximately 1.5 hours to complete.
