The Society of Women Engineer’s at UMass Dartmouth will be hosting an engineering exploration event on Monday September 27th from 2:45pm-3:45pm at Acushnet Middle School. In this event, we are aiming to expose girls to the engineering design process at a young age which will encourage them to peruse education in the STEM field. SWE volunteers will guide students in building a catapult while briefly describing the physics and design process. Next, we will group students into teams where they will be encouraged to brainstorm, design, and improve the catapults standard design. Finally, we will host a competition where teams compete for prizes to see who designed the catapult that can launch the furthest. Although this event is specifically for young girls to get involved in engineering at a young age, all genders are welcome.

Transportation will be provided, leaving from lot 5 at 2 pm.

If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please fill out this google form by Wednesday Sept. 22nd:
