About
Address educational inequity by supporting students as a tutor this Spring! No experience necessary! We ask volunteers to commit to only one hour per week, though you are welcome to tutor as often as you would like.
YTP acknowledges systemic inequities that disproportionately impact youth from low-income communities, communities of color, and immigrant families. Our volunteering program offers one-to-one tutoring and personalized support for our students, completely free of charge. Our program depends on volunteer tutors like you- could you join our tutoring program and make a lasting impact on students in the Seattle area?
YTP welcomes everyone who wants to help --we particularly encourage members of the Black community and people of color to become tutors. We serve a diverse group of students, 99% of whom are children of color. The majority of our students come from immigrant and refugee families. We believe a similar lived experience between tutor and student can be the most inspiring for young minds.
How it feels to be a tutor at YTP: "like I'm helping, maybe if only a little bit, to the students becoming better learners and advocates for themselves" - a current tutor at YTP
Please note: Tutoring is still online for Spring and Summer 2021. We welcome tutors interested in long term volunteer opportunities in their community, but also welcome our virtual tutors while we still hold our sessions online.
When we are able, we will be re-opening our tutoring centers, of which there are 6 in the Seattle area:
High Point, West Seattle
Jackson Park, Lake City
Lake Washington Apartments, Rainier Beach
New Holly, South Beacon Hill
Rainier Vista, Rainier Valley/Columbia City
Yesler Terrace, First Hill
